MalletKAT / How much lighter is the new MalletKat than the old steel one/
« Last post by Sally_B on August 03, 2019, 08:55:57 AM »
Hi,

I've got an old steel 4 octave malletkat (3 octave + expander) and I'm wondering about buying the new model.

Please can you confirm how much lighter the new model is.

Thanks

Sally

MalletKAT / Re: Mac OS X MALLETKAT EDITOR - BETA VERSION
« Last post by Sally_B on August 03, 2019, 08:53:34 AM »
Hi Mario,

I'm currently using an old steel 4 octave malletkat with a PC2R and looking forward to using the OSX editor.

I note that the manual states "The malletKAT Visual Editor requires a current User Kit SYSex file dated 12/12/18 or later".

Will uploading this new SYSex file make it difficult to use the PC2R?

Thanks

Sally

Success! Mission Control....I have audio. Big Thanks to Mario for some helpful hints! I bought a Presonus 24c USB-Midi-interface to go between the MK and my Linux computer. Installed a patch program called "jack", then installed synth and DAW, and found some soundfonts to test.  Jeeeezzz there is a lot of soundfonts out there !!

DITI - jamKAT-HybriKIT / Re: Pad types for ddrum piezo triggers?
« Last post by pacothetortuga on July 24, 2019, 08:06:25 PM »
I've plugged in both ddrum triggers and set their INPUT TYPEs to TRIGGER. Then I was able to adjust the sensitivity (manually) by changing the MIN VEL on the pad within the kit.

Certainly, there is a better way to do this. I'd appreciate any tips -- even to particular sections of the manual.

DITI - jamKAT-HybriKIT / Pad types for ddrum piezo triggers?

I have a ddrum kick trigger and a ddrum dual zone snare trigger that I'd like to use with the DITI.

Has anyone made Pad Types for these triggers? If not, any tips for doing these from scratch?

DITI - jamKAT-HybriKIT / Switching note numbers with a footswitch in DITI?
« Last post by pacothetortuga on July 22, 2019, 05:01:04 PM »
With my DK10, I can specify each of the ten pads to be a hihat pad. Then I can essentially create two kits in one, where I switch between each of two kits with the hihat controller: hihat up is one kit, and hihat down is the other. My hihat controller is an old DrumKat H.A.T. (Hat Action Trigger) pedal. I use the FTSW out from this pedal. But you can use any footswitch (in the hihat input on the DK10) for the same effect.

Is it possible to do something similar with JamKAT/DITI? The hihat systems are much more complicated. I tried setting each pad's "HiHat Select" to "HAT NOTE" and putting two different note numbers in Slot 1 and Slot 2 of the pad (all the rest OFF). Then I tried connecting each of the outputs (CTRL, FTSW, TRIG) from my H.A.T. pedal to each of inputs 7A and 7B on the DITI. But this didn't do the trick.

I don't quite understand the HiHat, HiHat Controller parameters (#1 and #4). My H.A.T. pedal has a "CTRL" output. Is this the same as the "Continuous Control" mentioned in the DITI manual?

DITI - jamKAT-HybriKIT / Re: User Kits in DITI?

UPDATE!

Re: User Kits
The bottom of page 7 of the DITI Manual (http://www.alternatemode.com/downloads/DITI/DITIMANUAL-DITI_2_5b_Manual.pdf) explains where the User Kits are (and why several of them appear to be preset kits, out of the box).

Re: How to send SysEx
(1) Connect MIDI OUT (IN) from your computer MIDI interface to MIDI IN (OUT) on the DITI (, respectively).
(2) Any of the following programs have relatively straightforward interfaces for saving, editing, sending, and receiving SysEX:

Some notes on my experience:
  • In SysEx Librarian, they send SysEx files by "playing" them. Push the big "play" button.
  • MIDI OX does not have an intuitive interface. I'm still struggling with it. However, it has a MIDI Monitor. And that was essential to diagnosing the problems I was having with my MIDI interfaces on Windows.
  • The DITI Editor freezes now and again (in my experience). So save your work often.

Here's what I've done so far to create a workflow to edit JamKAT/DITI kits.

(1) I obtained a copy of Windows 10 Education and installed it (via Apple Boot Camp) on my MacBook Pro (OSX Mojave 10.14).
(2) I installed the DITI Visual Editor for PC: http://www.alternatemode.com/downloads/DITI/editor/DITIEDITOR_Editor_Jul_2017.exe
(3) It took me a while (partly because I forgot you often have to install drivers in Windows) to get the DITI Editor to send/receive SysEx to/from the DITI, but I think I have it now (thru a Motu micro lite).
(4) Constantly stare at the JamKAT pad layout and its mapping to DITI inputs.

It's a little clunky. But it's far less clunky than editing via the up/down/left/right arrows on the DITI.

DITI - jamKAT-HybriKIT / User Kits in DITI?
« Last post by pacothetortuga on July 18, 2019, 03:12:56 PM »
I'd like to edit a User Kit from scratch in the DITI. But I don't see anything in the manual on how to start a new User Kit (despite several mentions of the User Kits). Any tips?

I've also seen several mentions (in the manual) of editing kits with MIDI SysEx dumps. I've never done this before. Do you recommend any software for editing the kits on a laptop and then sending them to the DITI?

DITI - jamKAT-HybriKIT / JamKAT visual editor

In many of Mario's videos with the JamKAT, he appears to have some "visual editor" type software for the JamKAT on a (Windows) laptop.

Is this software available? Is there a Mac OSX version?
